Job Summary
The candidate will be working with The Reach’s new permanent Voices of the Valley exhibition of local history, slated to open in the second half of 2025. In this role, they will be offered the opportunity to forge close working relationships with key members of The Reach’s curatorial team, as well as with external collaborators (content experts, designers, programmers, fabricators, etc.) contributing to the concept development, content development & spatialization, design, and presentation. The role of the Exhibition Design student is to support the development of the exhibition by producing mock-ups visualizing the team’s various ideas for creating an engaging visitor experience through immersive environments, multisensory modes of content delivery, and interactive learning activities.
What to expect:
Attend regular project team meetings and take notes;
Debrief with supervisor and set action items;
Produce mock-ups of displays, spatial configurations, activity stations, etc. proposed by various team members and present for review;
Conduct exhibition design research to become familiar with best practices in the museum/heritage section;
Receive design mentorship from award-winning design partner.
Candidate: The ideal candidate for this role is an advanced media arts or graphic design major with strong 3D rendering skills and/or a working knowledge of architectural drawing methods of visualization. A keen ability to transform a verbal or textual description of ideas into both preliminary sketches and more detailed drawings and/or renderings will be crucial.
