Job Summary
The Abbotsford Youth Commission has been serving youth in Abbotsford for 30 years providing youth centres, youth leadership, social emotional learning, physical activity, connection, support, and recreation for youth ages 12 – 18.
Practicum students will assist youth workers with recreation programing and drop in for youth clients. The goal is to connect with the youth clients, make them feel comfortable, as well as offer guidance and mentorship.
Practicum students will need to be available for 2 or 3 of the following shifts in May and June:
Mon-Thurs: 2:15pm-4:45pm (Youth Centre Drop-In)
Fridays: 2:15pm-6:15pm (Youth Centre Drop-In)
Youth night program on Tuesday and Thursday only (6:45pm-8:45pm)
July Summer program hours:
The morning camps are 10am-12pm and the drop-in centers are open from 12:30pm-4:30pm.
Practicum hours could potentially be Monday-Friday 9:45am-4:45pm.
With the summer program opening up more hours, students have the option of completing their practicum experience in early July.
Candidate: The ideal candidate must have excellent oral communication skills as well as an ability to problem solve and make others feel comfortable. Confidentiality is required.
