Our Mission: Give Locally, Fight Breast Cancer
At the Crystal Gala Foundation, we are committed to supporting breast cancer patients and their families in the Fraser Valley through early detection, advanced treatment, and community awareness. We believe in raising funds locally to make a direct difference in our community, ensuring state-of-the-art resources are available for screening, diagnosis, and care because everyone deserves the best chance to fight against breast cancer.
Job Summary: you will focus on hands-on set building, scenic design, and event production for the Annual Crystal Gala (a black-tie fundraiser with elaborate themed décor and interactive elements, including hosted games). This role is tailored for theatre arts students interested in technical theatre, set construction, props, and live event execution. You will work closely with the Gale Committee to bring the event's theme to life through creative builds and assist with interactive game stations during the gala.
Key responsibilities include:
• Collaborate on conceptualizing, designing, and constructing set pieces, backdrops, props, and themed décor elements for the gala venue.
• Assist in building and installing large-scale scenic elements, ensuring safety, durability, and alignment with the event's elegant aesthetic.
• Source or fabricate materials for set builds, including painting, carpentry, lighting integration, and thematic enhancements.
• Support event-day setup, operation, and teardown of sets and décor. Includes the week of Gala from October 22-25.
• Assist in managing and "selling" (hosting and facilitating) interactive games during the gala, engaging guests to encourage participation and fundraising (e.g., fun horse casino-style or themed games common in charity galas).
• Participate in rehearsals or run-throughs for any performance-related elements tied to the décor or entertainment.
• Contribute to brainstorming sessions for theme development and visual storytelling that enhances the guest experience.
Candidate: This practicum requires a self-starter, strong communicator, and creative and practical thinker with hands-on experience or coursework in set construction, carpentry, scenic painting, props fabrication, or stage management. You should be physically able to lift and move set pieces, have access to reliable transportation and be available for increased hours leading up to and on the Gala event day (week of October 22-25, 2026). A passion and enthusiasm for health awareness (especially breast cancer support) is a plus.
