Job Summary

Job Summary: This practicum provides students with the opportunity to support women from diverse backgrounds in Abbotsford and Mission, as well as their children, who have experienced or are at risk of intimate partner violence. In the first month, students will shadow an Outreach worker and learn how to apply trauma-informed gender-based approaches when supporting women and children. In the second month, they will assist with information calls, intake with an Outreach worker, and advocacy involving community agencies, police, the Ministry, and legal services. 

 

Participants will gain insight into the challenges women encounter when leaving abusive relationships and will learn strategies to assist them in accessing community resources such as safety, housing, financial assistance, legal aid, and support services. The practicum includes shadowing outreach workers in both community and office settings to acquire practical experience in client support and problem-solving. 

 

Candidate: The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong interest in learning about community support services in Abbotsford and Mission and can share information about resources and referral programs. This practicum is well-suited for students pursuing studies in social work, criminal justice, outreach, or public health. Maintaining confidentiality and completing a criminal record check are required.
