This practicum offers an opportunity to support membership outreach and organizational development with the Canadian Association for Security and Intelligence Studies (CASIS).
Working with Dr. Wade Deisman and CASIS leadership, the student will contribute to strengthening and expanding the association’s national network of students, academics, and professionals working in intelligence, security, and related fields.
This 80-hour placement will focus on outreach strategy, membership engagement, and the development of materials and processes to support sustainable organizational growth.
Project Focus: Membership Growth and Network Development
CASIS is a national organization that connects academic research, professional practice, and policy engagement in the fields of intelligence and security.
This project focuses on:
Expanding student and professional membership across Canada
Strengthening engagement with existing members
Supporting outreach to universities, colleges, and partner organizations
Enhancing the visibility and accessibility of CASIS initiatives
The goal is to build a more connected, active, and sustainable national network.
Candidate Profile
This role is suited to students interested in organizational development, communications, and security or intelligence studies.
The successful candidate will:
Develop skills in outreach, strategy, and stakeholder engagement
Gain experience in national-level organizational growth
Contribute to a professional and academic network
Engage with current issues in intelligence and security
Key Responsibilities
Support the development of membership outreach strategies
Assist with identifying and contacting potential members and partners
Help create outreach and promotional materials
Contribute to communication and engagement initiatives
Assist with tracking and analyzing membership growth

Any 3rd or 4th year UFV student may apply.
Preference will be given to students in:
Criminology, Political Science, Communications, Sociology, International Relations, or related Social Sciences fields.
