Job Summary
This program works to foster relationships of trust between Indigenous peoples and local churches, schools, and community organizations. MCC acknowledges the need for reconciliation by journeying in a greater understanding of the history, challenges and strengths we each bring--educating Mennonite constituents and others on Indigenous-Canadian history and reconciliation actions using workshops, speaking engagements, publications and online resources.
Candidate: Through this experience, the practicum student will learn to positively advance the mission of MCC as one engages with our MCC constituency, with Indigenous partners, and the broader community; as well as to facilitate opportunities for MCC constituents and Indigenous partners to build respectful relationships.
Students will assist the Indigenous Neighbours Program Coordinator to:
• Promote and deliver Indigenous Reconciliation education workshops and events.
• Develop and adapt Indigenous history and cultural presentations in an online format and online activities to engage church groups in the ministry of reconciliation.
• Co-facilitate the KAIROS Blanket Exercise and other learning activities for churches, schools, and supporters of MCC.
• Develop book study sessions related to creating greater awareness/understanding and conversation on Indigenous history/concerns & paths of reconciliation between Settler and Indigenous groups.
• Foster growth in relationships with Indigenous people and communities.
• Update and post Indigenous reconciliation prayer needs on social media; circulate Indigenous events newsletter.
• Develop an INP education event for board members, leadership, and staff.
• Develop relationships and collaborate with other organizations doing Indigenous reconciliation work.
