Job Summary
The Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) is seeking a motivated and creative Graphic Design Practicum Student to support the Communications team. This placement provides hands-on experience in a professional public safety environment, contributing to visual content that supports community engagement, crime prevention initiatives, and internal communications.
The student will gain real-world experience working on campaigns such as crime prevention, community outreach, recruitment, and public education.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the design and production of visual materials, including:
Social media graphics; Posters, brochures, and flyers; Event and campaign branding;
Presentation materials and internal documents
Support AbbyPD’s digital presence by creating engaging, on-brand visuals
Collaborate with Communications staff and various units to translate messaging into effective visual formats
Ensure consistency with AbbyPD branding, accessibility standards, and professional tone
Edit and resize graphics for multiple platforms (web, print, social)
Assist with basic photography, image editing, or asset organization (if applicable)
Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute creative ideas for campaigns
Help maintain digital asset libraries and templates
Candidate: This practicum would be suitable for a 4th year Graphic and Digital Design student who is interested in gaining experience designing for a public safety sector organization. They must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Canva and be able to work in-house at the police station. The student will build a professional portfolio with real-world campaign work.
Note: This will require a security clearance check provided by the Police Department.
