Job Summary
The Abbotsford Downtown Business Association (ADBA) is seeking a student interested in economic research and public policy to support a project examining the economic impacts of parking policy in downtown Abbotsford.
This practicum will involve assisting with the development of an economic impact assessment that evaluates the costs and benefits of parking availability, pricing, and accessibility for downtown businesses, visitors, and residents. The student will help collect and analyze relevant data, review comparable policies from other municipalities, and contribute to a report that will be shared with the City of Abbotsford and community stakeholders.
This project provides an opportunity to apply economic concepts such as cost-benefit analysis, market behavior, urban economic development, and policy evaluation to a real-world municipal issue. Students considering careers in economic consulting, policy analysis, urban planning, or public administration will gain valuable applied experience.
The Abbotsford Downtown Business Association works to foster a thriving downtown community through business support, advocacy, and collaboration with partners including Tourism Abbotsford, the City of Abbotsford, the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce, Community Futures South Fraser, and the University of the Fraser Valley.
This position requires a student with:
· Strong analytical and quantitative reasoning skills
· Interest in economic policy, urban economics, or community development
· Ability to interpret data and translate findings into clear written insights
· Experience with research, literature reviews, or data collection
· Strong written communication skills for report writing
· Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative project
